I hope I see you this Sunday between 1 and 3 at Crossroads Art Center!
First, let me invite you to stop in this Sunday at Crossroads Art Center to say hello between 1 pm and 3 pm, this Sunday. Crossroads (2016 Staples Mill Road, Richmond 23230) is hosting an open house all weekend, but I will be sure to be there during those times on Sunday to greet you. The art center is providing complimentary snacks and drinks, and is featuring a large show of its member artists, and you can enjoy an amazing display of some of Richmond's very best artists. I will be in Building 2 in the James River Art League space, and I hope to see you and to be able to share a selection of some of my recent work.
It all started with my very first cruise this past May, up the North Sea and around the Baltic, visiting many of the countries in the region. Ralph and I were fortunate to have a balcony cabin, and many evenings we made sure that we took the time to view the late evening sunset, which always took place about 9:30 p.m., due to the northern latitude.
One evening, as we cruised up the coast of western coast of Norway, I captured several photos of a striking sunset. Once home, with the prodding of my friend Judy, who particularly loved this view, I got started trying to bring this view to life.

Stage 1 for this painting, which is on a large 3 foot-high by 4-foot wide canvas, involved trying to capture the energy of the cloud pattern and areas of light and dark.
Stage 2 emerged over multiple days, where I tried to map out the primary colors in the sky that evening.

With final touches and colors, I try to give a three-dimensional feeling to the clouds and to accurately reflect the energy and light in this sunset and its reflection in the water.
Enjoy! I hope I get to say hello to you this weekend.
Warmly,
Trish
