Retreating to Virginia's Mountains in Summer
I hope you're enjoying a peaceful and restful summer.
There's been so much going on in our world... I've found respite taking trips out to the western parts of Virginia. Being in nature tends to put everything in perspective and to fill me with hope and joy.

I've been inspired by a beautiful family farm in Low Moor, Virginia, belonging to the Irvine Family for generations.
My friends Sally and Becky have a pair of beautiful labs, Casper and Porter, that I've featured in a couple of paintings, with "A Dog's View" being my favorite.

The Jackson River runs alongside the property, which is circled by mountains, making it a true slice of heaven. The Cowpasture and Jackson Rivers converge nearby, forming the headwaters for the James River.

I spent an inspiring week this summer at Nimrod Hall, an artists' retreat in Bath County, about 20 minutes away from the Irvine Farm.
Enjoy a painting of the little cottage up the hill from the one in which I stayed. This was painted as the morning mist rolled in from the mountain and the early sun reflected off the porch.

Nimrod has hosted art retreats for countless artists since the 1960s and has been a retreat of one sort or another since the late 1700s.
I hope I see you at an upcoming show or perhaps wandering the VMFA or at some other arts venue! Stay cool and enjoy your summer!
